Arsene Wenger has lined up Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas should Barcelona sign the Arsenal captain this summer. The Frenchman certain that he can keep Fabregas but should the Catalan giants make an offer that the Spanish international cannot refuse then Wenger would like to have a Premier League veteran lined up to replace him, according to the Daily Mail.Arteta returned from knee ligament damage and impressed Arsenal scouts with some fine performances for Everton this season.Everton would probably not be willing to sell Arteta this summer and are looking to discuss extending the Spaniard’s current deal, which ends in 2012.Arteta scored six goals in 13 appearances for Everton this season, but the midfielder is a fan favourite at Goodison Park and the Toffees want to keep their squad intact for another run at European football next year.

Van Persie-I like the look of Chamakh

Robin Van Persie has only watched Marouane Chamakh on television - but he likes what he has seen.

The Moroccan striker has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal when his contract with Bordeaux expires this summer and Arsène Wenger admitted last week that he was "confident" a deal will be done.

Chamakh could link up with Van Persie at Emirates Stadium and the Dutch forward is excited at the prospect.

"[I know him] just from TV," said Van Persie.

"He looks good, he looks quite strong in the air, he scores lots of goals with his head and he looks quite confident on the ball.

"Hopefully it [the deal] goes through. I think it is good for all of us and that is why I am happy to see him coming here."

Manuel Almunia: Possibly the difference between us winning something and losing. The Premier League’s worst ‘keeper I think, he just seems afraid of the ball at every chance he should be saving. He can’t punch the ball clear, and when he does he only sends it to the opposition. He rarely catches a ball cleanly and when he comes for crosses, you better close your eyes unless you like seeing huge mistakes. Verdict: Has to go.Lukasz Fabianski: Imagine Almunia, ok, now imagine 5 times worse! Now wake from your nightmare. Fabianski gets plenty of support from Wenger, but I see nothing to back it up. He’s rarely put in a solid effort, and when a keeper goes for a cross, there is no way his hand should extend as little as Fab’s does. A good shot-stopper on his day, but then again, his days are oh so rare. Verdict: Has to go.Mikael Silvestre: I’m not certain if his contract runs out this summer, but if it does I hope Wenger …
