Viera and Chamakh
Arsene Wenger is set to be busy up until the 5pm transfer deadline tomorrow, according to the Daily Mirror as the Arsenal manager is still hoping to seal deals for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh and former captain Patrick Vieira.
John Cross writes in the Daily Mirror: "Wenger has already had a £5m bid for Chamakh turned down but the Moroccan striker wants to join Arsenal and has just 12 months left on his deal. Frenchman Wenger, renowned for making last ditch deals having signed Andriy Arshavin at the 11th hour in January, has gone back to Bordeaux with a fresh offer hoping they will sell. Chamakh has made it clear that he won't sign a new deal so Arsenal are hoping Bordeaux sell now rather than lose him for nothing next summer."
Cross adds: "Vieira, 33, is still on his radar but that deal will depend on Inter allowing the French hardman to leave. Vieira is interested in returning to boost his World Cup chances after struggling to get regular games at Inter. St Etienne's Blaise Matuidi is another target but Arsenal don't want to pay £8m."
Chamakh played for Bordeaux last night in their 0-0 draw with Marseille, the Morrocan striker was substituted in the 87th minute of the match. So far this season the 25-year-old striker has played five games and scored three goals.
Vieira played the first half of Inter Milan’s draw with Bari on the opening day of the Serie A season and came on for the final 17 minutes of the 4-0 win over rivals AC Milan on Saturday night.
